Children's Library

The SJAFB children’s library offers collections of children’s books, comfortable reading space for young people and their families, and storytelling events twice a week. Special children’s programming is scheduled throughout the year.  Parents: please read our policy on lending library materials to children.

Storytelling at the Base Library

Nana Belle’s Story Hour takes place every Tuesday morning at 10:30 a.m. Stories and activities are suitable for ages 3 to 6. Younger children may attend at parent’s discretion.

Summer Reading Program

Each summer our children's library is turned into a fantasy world where children ages <1 to 18 can explore the joy of reading through entertaining and educational activities.

2010 @ Your Library Reading Program

It is that time of year to start planning to attend the SJAFB Library Summer Reading Program.  This year we have lots of fun PRIZES, GAMES, and CRAFTS in store for you.

This year's theme is Voyage to Book Island and includes programs for everyone, children through adults.

The program begins Wednesday, June 22.  We will have a kick-off party on June 16th.  Registration begins May 1st.

Volunteer program assistants are welcome!

Homework Help

The base library maintains a broad collection of materials that students can use for school assignments.  Research assistance is available from the reference department or around the clock from our online Ask a Field Librarian service.

Accelerated Reader Program

The base library coordinates with Wayne County Schools to support the Accelerated Reader Program.  Copies of the AR lists are maintained in the Children's library.

Resources for Beginning Readers

The base library maintains collections of books published especially for beginning readers, such as the "I Can Read" series.  See a library staff member for more information about these titles.

Home Schooling Resources

The library periodically offers library orientation classes for children who are home schooled.  The library's collection includes resources designed to help parents who home school their children.

Educational software

The children’s library has three computers set up with educational software for preschool and elementary school children.
