Library Policies

Patron registration

Library cards are issued to military members and retirees, civilian personnel and affiliated students. One library card is issued per family. Registering patrons specify the dependents authorized to use their accounts at the time of registration. Library cards are issued for 2-year periods. Students, not otherwise eligible, register each term.

NOTE TO PARENTS: Air Force Librarians, per AFI 34-270, 2.4.5, are instructed to follow the American Library Association (ALA) Bill of Rights to ensure that the selection process is free from censorship.  The instruction also states: "Libraries will also apply the principles of intellectual freedom, not only in selection, but also in all aspects of library service, by implementing the Interpretations of the Library Bill of Rights, the Privacy Act, and the procedures for handling complaints set forth in the Intellectual Freedom Manual and updates from ALA's Office of Intellectual Freedom."

The ALA Policy Manual states in section 53.1.4: "Denying minors access to certain library materials and services available to adults is a violation of the Library Bill of Rights. Librarians and governing bodies should maintain that parents--and only parents--have the right and the responsibility to restrict the access of their children--to library resources. Adopted 1972, amended 1981, 1992."
